Top tips to help you say yes to the dress!

Throughout my three years working at an esteemed bridal store, there is MUCH that I have learned about wedding dress shopping. From who to bring (and not to bring), how to prepare before your appointment, and how to interact with your consultant, I have so much to share! Weddings can be stressful, but they shouldn’t be! You have no idea how many girls come to buy their dream dress and are absolutely terrified! So if I can make dress shopping any easier for you or for the bride-to-be in your life, it would be my pleasure. Here are some top tips for making your dress selection one of the best memories of your life!

1.) Bring as few people as possible!

You have no idea how many times I see a bride-to-be bring a HUGEEEE entourage to her dress selection appointment. While more may sometimes be merrier, this isn’t really the case. More people means more opinions, which usually ends up making the experience a lot more stressful than it needs to be. I only recommend bringing three people (at most) to your appointment, especially if you have a hard time ignoring the opinions of others. It takes a very specific bride to be able to choose the dress that SHE loves despite what others in her group may think. And make sure if the salon allows pictures to be taken that no one posts your dream gown on social media!!

2.) Pregame!

No, I do not mean come to your appointment in a drunken stupor (you will surely regret whatever you pick, I promise). What I mean to say is that if you have no idea what kind of gown you want, you should try some gowns on in a smaller boutique before heading to any larger stores. It will make it much easier to narrow down what silhouette you are going for, and will bring much more focus to your following appointment…Which brings me to…

3.) Tell your consultant EVERYTHING.

Since when is being picky bad? I personally love a bride who has a vision and knows what she likes and what she isn’t so found of in a wedding gown. It makes the dress shopping experience much more productive! That doesn’t mean that she may change her mind (it happens ALLL the time), but the more specific the better!

This is a MAJOR tip. I have so many brides who end up picking a gown that was everything that they didn’t want. Usually, we have a conversation that involves the bride hemming and hawing because she just can’t believe that she loves something that she swore she wouldn’t wear down the aisle. It’s a-okay to change your vision! As long as your most beautiful when walking down the aisle, that is all that matters!

5.) Undergarments are important!

When shopping for a dress, be sure to wear full coverage seamless nude underwear (it makes measuring much more pleasant for us and the seamless variety ensures no weird panty lines for you, and I mean really who wants to see your red underwear through the white gown you are wearing? It makes imagining walking down the aisle very very difficult!). Also bring any kind of special bras or shape wear that you may wear under a gown, and a pair of shoes just in case the salon doesn’t offer sample pairs to try with the dresses.

I hope that you find these tips helpful and that your gown searching is fun and as stress-free as possible! Now that we have that covered, comment below with stories about your wedding dress shopping adventures!
